Gorilla Centaur #4

I have continued to dive deeper into the design of the gorilla centaur. I put together a little gallery of my current progress. Feel free to check it out.

I added some accessories for the character, and there will be more as I get closer to finishing the high poly sculpt. I also began detailing the humanoid portion and have plans to start working on the gorilla portion to get a final block out of the muscles. So far, I feel that his story is starting to come through. My idea was to make these creatures a midieval and tribal culture. He is a fantasy creature who lives in a fictional world much like our own.

Also, I made the gorilla a bit larger, not only to distribute weight more evenly, but also to be in line with the idea that this creature was born in a lab, formulated to be large and powerful.

After I finish the detailing portion of the gorilla body, I can begin detailing all of the accessory pieces. That is the next step for me. I have resurfaced the body once, and will do so again when I finish the hi res sculpt. That way I can retopo all the pieces and layout uvs as I go.

My end goal for this project is to have a hi resolution sculpture that i can pose and place on a base in 3D, and to also have a lower poly version that can be used in game. The first goal will be to finish the hi res sculpture. I plan on using the fibers within zbrush to create the final sulpture, and then I can use those fibers to create the curve data that i need to create some hair cards within maya so that this character and work for game.

I will be starting my next quarter at school soon, so my schedule will get a bit spread thin for a few months, but I will be making sure to find time to work on this guy. The next time I put an update out, I should be close to being finished with the hi res version in its entirety and work will be done on the low poly game asset as well. Time to let this character free so that I can get some more feedback on my direction.

Until next time!

Ean
